Four ways to get your coffee labels designed, compared
Canva or AI, a freelancer, your print shop, or design included with your order: what each costs, how long it takes, and what you need to bring.
The short answer
There are four ways to get coffee labels designed. Do it yourself in Canva or with AI, hire a freelancer, take finished artwork to a print shop, or get them designed with your order. DIY saves money but takes your time. A freelancer is the route for a new identity. Most print shops print the art you bring and don't design from scratch. With Sticker Sidekick, you get a few free designs made from your website or Instagram, and you pay only when you print.
The four routes side by side
| Factor | DIY: Canva | DIY: AI tools | Freelancer | Print shop (its design service, or your own art) | Designed with your order (Sticker Sidekick) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cost | DIY: CanvaFree plan, or Canva Pro at US$144 a year (Canva). Printing is separate. | DIY: AI toolsVaries by tool. Printing is separate. | FreelancerGigs $20–$300 (InkRoast). A freelance label $500–$2,000, plus $150–$500 per extra SKU (Kapa99). Printing is separate. | Print shop (its design service, or your own art)Vistaprint's sticker design service is $29.00, and “print cost is additional” (Vistaprint). Setting up art you bring is free at StickerGiant and Sticker Mule. | Designed with your order (Sticker Sidekick)The designs and your revisions are free. You pay for printing: 100 two-inch white vinyl stickers are $99 (pricing). |
| Time | DIY: CanvaKapa99 puts a DIY template label at 4 to 10 hours of your time (Kapa99). | DIY: AI toolsYour time, plus fixing the file for print (Blue Label). | Freelancer1–3 weeks for a freelancer, 3–7 days for a gig (Kapa99). | Print shop (its design service, or your own art)Vistaprint: 24-hour turnaround on its design service, excluding weekends and public holidays (Vistaprint). | Designed with your order (Sticker Sidekick)Printed stickers ship in under a week after you order. |
| Effort | DIY: CanvaYou design it and set up the print file: size, bleed, resolution and color. | DIY: AI toolsYou write prompts, then fix text, resolution, color and bleed, or pay someone to rebuild the file. | FreelancerYou write a brief and review drafts. | Print shop (its design service, or your own art)Low if your art is print-ready. A design service starts from a brief you fill out. | Designed with your order (Sticker Sidekick)Paste your link, pick one of a few designs, ask for changes in plain words, and approve. |
| Revisions | DIY: CanvaAs many as you make. | DIY: AI toolsAs many as you make. | FreelancerUsually 2 or 3 rounds (Kapa99, InkRoast). | Print shop (its design service, or your own art)Vistaprint: up to 3 revisions within 30 days. Sticker Mule: unlimited proof revisions on art you supply (Sticker Mule). | Designed with your order (Sticker Sidekick)Revisions are included. |
| Brand fit | DIY: CanvaAs close as you make it. You start from your own files or a template. | DIY: AI toolsHit or miss. Blue Label says AI image tools “misspell brand names” and “warp type” (Blue Label). | FreelancerStrong if you brief well. The route for a new logo or identity. | Print shop (its design service, or your own art)Your artwork, printed as supplied. Most print shops don't design from scratch. | Designed with your order (Sticker Sidekick)Designed from what makes your shop recognizable: the storefront, drinks and food, logo, neighborhood and story. |
| What you bring | DIY: CanvaLogo files, colors, your label size, your printer's specs. | DIY: AI toolsThe same as Canva, plus prompts and someone to check the final file. | FreelancerA brief, logo files, your label size and a budget. | Print shop (its design service, or your own art)A print-ready file: vector or 300 dpi, with bleed, in CMYK (StickerGiant; see our print specs). For a design service, a written brief. | Designed with your order (Sticker Sidekick)Your website or Instagram. That's all we need to start (help). |

Design it yourself: Canva or AI
Canva has a free plan. Canva Pro is US$144 a year (US$12 a month billed yearly), or US$18 month to month, per Canva. Printing is a separate cost.
The hard part is the print file, not the layout. StickerGiant defines print-ready as vector or 300 dpi, with bleed, in CMYK (StickerGiant). Our print specs walk through each one. Before you start, measure the flat panel on your bag with the coffee bag label size guide.
AI tools can help in the early stages. Wizard Labels says ChatGPT can help brainstorm names, draft and shorten label copy, explore visual directions and prepare a creative brief, but “AI-generated artwork and print-ready artwork are not the same thing” (Wizard Labels). Blue Label Packaging says AI files arrive as low-res raster images in RGB, and that “AI image tools invent letters, misspell brand names, drop characters, and warp type” (Blue Label). So AI is good for ideas and weak for the final file.
DIY works if you have the time and a clear idea. Kapa99 puts a DIY template label at “4 to 10 hours of your time” (Kapa99).
Hire a freelancer
Three sources publish prices, and they don't agree, so here is each one:
- Kapa99 lists a freelance label at $500–$2,000, plus $150–$500 per extra SKU, taking 1–3 weeks with 2 or 3 revision rounds.
- InkRoast lists gigs at $20–$300 and freelancers at $300–$4,000 per SKU, with print-ready files, 2–3 revision rounds and source files.
- ManyPixels says $500–$4,000 per SKU, and to “skip $20 to $50 marketplace gigs for anything going to a printer”.
You can also run a contest. 99designs sticker contests start at US$189 (Bronze) and go up to US$599 (Platinum), “in about a week” (99designs). Those are sticker contest prices, not label prices.
Kapa99 and ManyPixels both sell design services themselves.
A freelancer is the right route for a new logo or identity, or a label system across many SKUs. Printing is a separate step. For stickers beyond coffee, see five ways to get a sticker designed.
Ask your print shop
- Sticker Mule
- “While we're unable to design your sticker from scratch, we offer a free, self-guided design tool called Studio.” Artwork setup is free, with unlimited proof revisions. It also runs a design-service marketplace with no published prices.
- StickerGiant
- “We don't offer full design services,” with free artwork setup.
- StickerApp
- “We don't offer advanced design services like creating new designs from scratch.”
- Stickerit
- “We do not offer a design service.” It can add a cutline and bleed, place white layers and make small changes.
- Vistaprint
- A paid sticker design service at $29.00, with a 24-hour turnaround (excluding weekends and public holidays) and up to 3 revisions within 30 days. “Print cost is additional.”
- CustomStickers
- Design “may charge up to $25 an hour depending on the complexity.”
Print shops are great for printing art you already have. Most aren't a design route.
No artwork yet? Here's what to do
You have a logo, but no labels.
A freelancer can build labels around it, or a design-included printer can design from it.
You have a website or Instagram.
That's enough for us to start. We design a few directions from what makes your shop recognizable.
You need a new logo or a full identity.
Hire a designer or studio first. InkRoast notes identity work comes before packaging.
Design included with your order (Sticker Sidekick)
Paste your link.
Your website or Instagram. That's all we need to start.
Get a few designs.
We study your storefront, menu, logo and story, then design a few different directions.
Pick a favorite.
Tell us anything you want changed, in plain words. We redo it for you.
Approve and print.
Check the final artwork, pick a size and quantity, and pay. Nothing prints until you approve.
The designs and your revisions are free. You pay for printing. 100 two-inch white vinyl stickers are $99, and 100 4×5 in bag labels are $278, design included (October 2026). See pricing for other sizes, or read about custom coffee bag labels, designed for you.
Does it use AI? Partly. We use AI image tools to draw the artwork, guided by research on your shop. Every design is checked before we send it to you, and nothing is printed until you approve the final artwork. If something looks off, tell us and we'll redo it.
Who owns the design? Your logo, photos and anything else you send us stay yours. We don't claim ownership of your final sticker design. Because AI tools help draw the artwork, parts of a design may not be one of a kind. Our terms of service have the details. More answers are in help.

Questions
Anything else? See the pricing page or ask us.
Do sticker printers design labels for you?
Most big ones don't design from scratch. Sticker Mule, StickerGiant, StickerApp and Stickerit all say so in their help pages, and they set up artwork you already have. Vistaprint sells a sticker design service for $29.00, with printing extra, and CustomStickers charges up to $25 an hour for design. (Prices checked October 24, 2026.)
Is it cheaper to design my coffee label in Canva?
It costs less money, but more of your time. Canva has a free plan, and Canva Pro is US$144 a year. You do the design and the print setup yourself, which Kapa99 estimates at 4 to 10 hours for a template label.
Can I use AI to design my coffee labels?
AI is useful for names, copy and early ideas. For the final file, label printers warn that AI images often come out low-resolution and in screen colors, with misspelled or warped text and no bleed. Plan to have the file checked or rebuilt before you print.
What does a freelancer charge for a coffee label?
Published 2026 ranges vary by source: $500–$2,000 for an original freelance label (Kapa99), $300–$4,000 per SKU (InkRoast), and $500–$4,000 per SKU (ManyPixels). Marketplace gigs start lower, from $20 to $300 (InkRoast). Printing is extra.
Should I hire a freelancer or use my print shop's design service?
Hire a freelancer if you need a new logo or identity, several SKUs, or source files you control. A print shop's design service is quicker and smaller. Vistaprint's is $29.00, with a 24-hour turnaround and up to 3 revisions, and printing is extra.
Do I pay for the designs?
No. The designs and your revisions are free. You pay for printing when you choose a design and order. For example, 100 two-inch white vinyl stickers are $99 (October 2026).
What do I need to get started with Sticker Sidekick?
Your website or Instagram. That's all we need to start. We look at your website and public profiles for what makes your shop recognizable, then design a few different directions.
Does Sticker Sidekick use AI?
How many can I order, and how fast do they ship?
Orders start at 25. Self-serve orders go up to 20,000 per design. Over 20,000, email us at matt@stickersidekick.com. Stickers are printed on white vinyl, matte or glossy. Printed stickers ship in under a week after you order, and we email tracking when they ship. We ship to the US only.
